Your conversations belong on your computer.

Check 0.2.0 runs AI locally on your Mac. The app has no account system, analytics, advertising or automatic crash reporting. It does not upload your chats or scan your personal files.

During setup

The app reads your computer’s chip, operating system, memory and available storage to recommend a model. It checks the known Ollama model folder for an exact matching model. These checks stay on your Mac. Reusing an existing model is optional.

Check downloads the AI engine from GitHub’s official Ollama releases and model files from Ollama’s registry. Those services and their delivery providers receive the information needed to deliver downloads, including your IP address. They apply their own privacy policies.

While you chat

The AI engine listens only on your computer’s loopback interface. Check disables the engine’s cloud features and uses only its approved local models. No online fallback is used. Internet is not needed for chat after setup.

Conversations are held in the app window’s memory. A new chat clears the current conversation, and quitting clears all chats. This release does not save chat history. Your operating system may manage memory using its normal swap and diagnostic facilities.

What stays on disk

Check keeps its AI engine, models, setup preferences and a local engine diagnostic log in your Mac’s Application Support/Check folder. Diagnostic logs are never automatically uploaded. If you opt to reuse an Ollama model, that model remains in Ollama’s model folder.

Optional Benaiah connection

If you choose Check as a source for a Benaiah teammate, Benaiah Desktop sends that teammate’s instructions, selected memories and recent conversation to Check on your Mac. Model generation stays local, but Benaiah’s account, message relay, history and memory services still handle the conversation. This is not an entirely offline or Mac-only Benaiah service.

The connection reuses your installed model and never falls back to cloud inference. It uses a private connection between the two apps, requires a paired Mac, and supports text replies only. Read Benaiah’s privacy policy for its data handling.

This website

The website has no marketing analytics, contact form or advertising cookies. Hosting and download services may process connection details and security logs to deliver and protect the site. A help link opens in your browser; nothing from your chat is included.

Removing Check

Quit the app, move Check from Applications to the Bin, and remove Application Support/Check if you also want to remove its downloaded models and settings. Existing Ollama files are separate. See Help for the exact steps.
